"Glacial Lake" Photo of the Day: August 18, 2015

Glacier National Park, you are stunning. I have had the privilege of visiting this beautiful park twice before, each time driving the length of it's famous "Going to the Sun Road". The scenery and hiking is some of the best that I have ever experienced! This was shot at a lake after a short hike from the road.

Photo of the Day: August 4, 2015 "Canyon in Yellowstone"

The Yellowstone River in Yellowstone National Park carves out some beautiful canyons and gorges, including this stunning one. While Yellowstone is famous for its geysers, hot springs, and mudpots don't forget to experience the incredible rolling landscapes that were shaped from the volcanic activity over the years. If you ever get the opportunity to visit this incredible park, do so. You will not be disappointed!

Conservatory Plant Life

Hey everyone, this is just a quick post on some photos that I got on a recent trip to a local conservatory. Since Spring is taking its sweet time to arrive here in Minnesota, it was nice to spend some quality time shooting indoors in a tropical environment.

I also want to say that I have been busily working on creating my own online portfolio website (I am using smugmug). It is quite a process to get it up to my standards but it is beginning to take shape... Regardless, I hope to have it up and running this weekend and will obviously post a link to it here.

Finally, I did something that I should have done a long time ago and that is change the url of this site. Back when I first started my photography blog back in 2008 it was called "WP Nature Photography" and the url coincided with that and was "wp-nature-photography.blogspot.com". As my experience grew and my love of photography spread to much more than just nature, I changed the name to a much more appropriate "Wyatt Prosch Photography". However because of some obvious negative results (lost comments, lost bookmarks, etc.) I put off changing the url to the proper title.

I finally did the other day, so I apologize for some of the setbacks that you may notice as a result. In due time the blog will be back up to full speed! As always, thank you for looking!

Black and White HDR Night Photography...at the Museum!

Hi everyone! On our way back through Kansas City after visiting the Ozarks this past week, we spent some time with my family exploring some of the cool stuff that "KC" has to offer. One such thing was the incredible Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. This free art museum is absolutely massive and I had the privilege of visiting it twice: once, during the morning and early afternoon exploring the exhibits, and later on returning once the sun had set to photograph the "Modern Art" wing of the museum after dark. This stunning building has an extraordinary facade not unlike portions of the University of Minnesota's own Rapson Hall (where I basically live during the school year).

These images are a bit different than what I normally shoot as they are 1. Black and White, and 2. High Dynamic Range. Both of these factors play into interesting images that I feel helps bring out the character that the stunning building had over the surrounding landscape. HDR Photography entails taking several images of the same composition, each at different exposures. Merging these images together later on in the post-processing stage allows for most everything in a photo to be properly exposed, rather than just the focal point of an image. I will do a post just on HDR Photography later on. Thanks for looking!

California Daydreaming

Santa Monica Pier, Santa Monica, CA
It is getting cold here in Minnesota...so naturally I am making a post NOT about the pending winter months, rather me fantasizing about my trips to California. I enjoy visiting California very much and shamelessly look like a tourist while I am there; carrying around all of my camera equipment (of course I look like a tourist EVERYWHERE I go because of this). With this said, I look forward to the upcoming winter photography opportunities for me...which are right around the corner!

Some plants in Grand Canyon National Park

Hello everyone! I hope that you are all surviving the winter just fine! I know that up here in "Minnesnowta" the winter weather can be a huge issue for traveling and what not. Personally, I am 100% ready for Spring.
Anyway here are some older photos that I took a while back at the Grand Canyon National Park. Enjoy!

"Yucca brevifolia" The Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree National Park in Southern California is home to some very awesome and unique rock formations and wildlife, however the most famous residents of this park in the Mojave Desert are the trees....Joshua Trees (Yucca brevifolia).
These amazing plants are native to the South Western United States but are not considered widely common outside of the park. They grow very fast for a desert plant, growing up to 3 inches a year.
These trees are pollinated entirely by the Yucca Moth, who lays her eggs inside of the trees flowers. These trees don't have a "normal" tree trunk as their trunks are made up of stringy fibers. This causes them to not have "growth rings" like other trees do, making it very hard to determine an individual Joshua Tree's age, however, some believe that they can live up to 1,000 years.
