"Live the Life You've Imagined" Photo of the Day: March 20, 2016

"Go confidently in the directions of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined." - Henry David Thoreau.

That is one of my favorite quotes, and for one reason or another this photo always reminds me of it. Maybe its the gorgeous seaside landscape or the two people atop the cliff. Whatever it may be, it always serves as a reminder for me to pursue my dreams.

"The Pavilion" Photo of the Day: February 17, 2016

"The Pavilion." I shot this pavilion on Raspberry Island, an island in the center of the Mississippi River near downtown St. Paul, Minnesota. A bit chilly out but it was worth it!

"Lunchtime at the Falls" Photo of the Day: December 23, 2015

This cute little mammal was snacking on some seeds in probably the most photogenic place that it could have possibly been - in Yellowstone National Park, at the Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River. I got a couple of shots before it became camera shy and turned its back to me and continued munching!

"Stone Arch Sunset" Photo of the Day: November 3, 2015

I had to stand in knee-deep water to get this composition of the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis, a historic bridge that spans the Mississippi. The sun was setting directly above the downtown skyline causing much of the sky to be "washed out" though the lovely purple colors are still noticeable on the surface of the river.

"Reef Life" Photo of the Day: October 15, 2015

"Reef Life." This is another photo from one of my dives on the Great Barrier Reef that borders the eastern coast of Australia. The sheer amount of life residing throughout this incredible ecosystem is truly extraordinary.

"Cairns Skyline" Photo of the Day: October 14, 2015

This is the "skyline view" in Cairns, Queensland located in far northeastern Australia. The city itself is sizable with just over 150,000 residents and has some impressive architectural features throughout, however the most dramatic views are of the surrounding rainforest and harbor. Sailboats filled the marinas as storm clouds rolled in over the mountains. It is from this city that most tourists board ships that take them out to the Great Barrier Reef if they intend on experiencing the dramatic underwater spectacle.

"Above the Clouds" Photo of the Day: October 7, 2015

"Above the Clouds." After a lengthy drive and an exhausting hike one can come across this view in Glacier National Park in Montana. The high altitude results in one tiring quicker than usual, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time when hiking so far up!

"Joshua Tree Landscape" Photo of the Day: October 4, 2015

Joshua Tree National Park, Southern California. Eight years ago, this was the first ever desert national park that I had visited. To my surprise, it snowed almost the entire time that I was there and was one of the coldest days in recent park history (according to a park ranger).

"Minneapolis Fire" Photography Post: September 21, 2015

"Minneapolis Fire." After class one evening last week I was walking to my car when I noticed the stunning sunset that was beginning to take place overhead. I made my way over to the Washington Avenue Bridge on the University of Minnesota campus and shot countless frames as the colors deepened over the horizon of the Minneapolis downtown skyline.

I did minor editing on this photograph. As always, I used editing to bring the photos as close as possible to the way that the image looked to the naked eye. The incredible colors and natural saturation that was present was jaw-dropping!

The photographs above and below were taken the same night among the extraordinary curving facade of the Weisman Art Museum designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. The building with the vertical "stripes"  is another gorgeous piece of architecture on campus, Bruininks Hall (formally STSS). Isn't the way that the sunset interacts with the facade gorgeous?

"Purple Sunset" Photo of the Day: September 13, 2015

Yesterday evening I spent a good deal of time wandering throughout the parks surrounding the historic Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. During a dazzling sunset, I made my way to the shore of the Mississippi River to get some photographs of the dramatic purple colors. Here in Minnesota, god is a Vikings fan!

"Storm Clouds" Photo of the Day: September 12, 2015

I shot this on Wednesday earlier this week as a rainstorm developed here in Minneapolis. I parked my car and jumped out to photograph the incredible clouds that were created from the incoming weather but was quickly forced back into my vehicle when rain suddenly began to pour down.

"Vertical Falls" Photo of the Day: September 1, 2015

Happy September! This photo was taken several years ago in Glacier National Park in Montana on its famous Going-to-the-Sun Road.
