"Riverside" Photo of the Day: February 10, 2016
"Riverside." Thanks to my buddy Timmy for allowing me to randomly snap photos of him during a recent hike along the icy shores of the Mississippi River. My addiction to black and white continues to grow stronger...

"Stone Arch Sunset" Photo of the Day: November 3, 2015
I had to stand in knee-deep water to get this composition of the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis, a historic bridge that spans the Mississippi. The sun was setting directly above the downtown skyline causing much of the sky to be "washed out" though the lovely purple colors are still noticeable on the surface of the river.

"Autumn Vines" Photo of the Day: October 26, 2015
"Autumn Vines." The way that nature interacts with architecture throughout the seasons fascinates me. It is frequently stunningly beautiful, as seen here on the University of Minnesota campus.

"Minneapolis Fire" Photography Post: September 21, 2015
"Minneapolis Fire." After class one evening last week I was walking to my car when I noticed the stunning sunset that was beginning to take place overhead. I made my way over to the Washington Avenue Bridge on the University of Minnesota campus and shot countless frames as the colors deepened over the horizon of the Minneapolis downtown skyline.
I did minor editing on this photograph. As always, I used editing to bring the photos as close as possible to the way that the image looked to the naked eye. The incredible colors and natural saturation that was present was jaw-dropping!
The photographs above and below were taken the same night among the extraordinary curving facade of the Weisman Art Museum designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry. The building with the vertical "stripes" is another gorgeous piece of architecture on campus, Bruininks Hall (formally STSS). Isn't the way that the sunset interacts with the facade gorgeous?

"Purple Sunset" Photo of the Day: September 13, 2015
Yesterday evening I spent a good deal of time wandering throughout the parks surrounding the historic Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis. During a dazzling sunset, I made my way to the shore of the Mississippi River to get some photographs of the dramatic purple colors. Here in Minnesota, god is a Vikings fan!

"Storm Clouds" Photo of the Day: September 12, 2015
I shot this on Wednesday earlier this week as a rainstorm developed here in Minneapolis. I parked my car and jumped out to photograph the incredible clouds that were created from the incoming weather but was quickly forced back into my vehicle when rain suddenly began to pour down.

"Rainy Spirits" Photo of the Day: August 16, 2015
I hope everyone is having a good weekend! Here is a photo that I took a couple of weeks ago right after a fairly intense rainstorm here in Minneapolis. I honestly would love to go back and reshoot this sometime as I feel like I did not do enough to draw attention to the cloud-shrouded skyline in the distance.

"Ionic Colonnade" Photo of the Day: August 13, 2015
I shot this one winter evening at Northrup Auditorium on the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus. I remember it being unbelievably cold and my fingers were numb for quite a while afterwards!

Photo of the Day: August 12, 2015 "Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis"
I rarely post photos not taken on my Nikon, but this is one that I shot from my iPhone this past February. Taken on the East bank of the Mississippi River - facing downtown Minneapolis - the centerpiece of this photograph is the historic Stone Arch Bridge. The illuminated stone arches created all sorts of interesting shadows on the frozen river. Despite it being one of the coldest nights that I have ever been out shooting, I was pleasantly surprised by some of the photos that I got, including this one taken on my iPhone. I lightly edited it to remove as much of the noise (grain) as possible from the dark areas of the photo.

Photo of the Day: August 7, 2015 "Washington Avenue, Minneapolis"
I shot this late at night on top of a parking garage overlooking a section of Washington Avenue near the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis. The usually busy street is much quieter at night, as seen here where not a single person inhabits the sidewalks and the streets are nearly devoid of automobiles and trains.

Photo of the Day: August 5, 2015 "Tower in Winter"
While wandering around Loring Park near downtown Minneapolis this past March, I photographed this apartment tower amongst some beautiful cloud cover. The way that the clouds appeared to be painted in the sky is one of my favorite things about this photo.

Photo of the Day: July 31, 2015 "Nighttime Street"
I love shooting at night, it is one of my favorite things to do! There is something very rewarding about capturing nice photographs in low light situations and seeing how light interacts with an environment. This particular photo was shot this past Spring from the top of a parking garage late at night in Minneapolis. Overlooking a neighborhood with large student housing looming in the background, it was a challenge to get the exposures that I wanted to properly show how the illumination from the streetlights affected the street and buildings.

Photo of the Day: July 29, 2015 "The Door"
"The Door." This late night photograph was taken this past winter around midnight. While out photographing the older buildings on the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities campus (one of the few university campuses with sections under the protection of the National Register of Historic Places) I came across this scene. A steep stairwell led down to a door intensely illuminated by a red light creating an almost creepy atmosphere!
