"Live the Life You've Imagined" Photo of the Day: March 20, 2016

"Go confidently in the directions of your dreams. Live the life you've imagined." - Henry David Thoreau.

That is one of my favorite quotes, and for one reason or another this photo always reminds me of it. Maybe its the gorgeous seaside landscape or the two people atop the cliff. Whatever it may be, it always serves as a reminder for me to pursue my dreams.

"Cairns Skyline" Photo of the Day: October 14, 2015

This is the "skyline view" in Cairns, Queensland located in far northeastern Australia. The city itself is sizable with just over 150,000 residents and has some impressive architectural features throughout, however the most dramatic views are of the surrounding rainforest and harbor. Sailboats filled the marinas as storm clouds rolled in over the mountains. It is from this city that most tourists board ships that take them out to the Great Barrier Reef if they intend on experiencing the dramatic underwater spectacle.

"The Stingray" Photo of the Day: August 21, 2015

Here is a photo of an incredible animal that I came across while snorkeling on some sandbars in the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Northeastern Australia. The species is a Blue-Spotted Stingray, and I encountered several of these while snorkeling. Stingrays are personally some of my favorite fish and seeing them in the wild was a real treat!

Photo of the Day: August 10, 2015 "Kayaking at Cape Tribulation"

This photo was taken while kayaking around Cape Tribulation in far north Queensland, Australia. The cinematic clouds and beautiful landscapes created for a magical visual experience. After kayaking for several hours of exploring the rugged tropical coastline and spotting reef sharks beneath out kayaks we all grabbed each other's boats to create a single large raft. We then faced the mountains and drank mimosas and ate chocolate cake as we watched the sun set over the lush tropical rainforest that is the Daintree. I will never forget that incredible evening!

Photo of the Day: July 24, 2015 "The Three Sisters in the Blue Mountains"

This was shot within the Blue Mountains National Park in New South Wales, Australia. I shot this while peering through the rainforest at the "Three Sisters" rock formation during a hike. This beautiful park has some of Australia's most stunning scenery and was a blast to explore!

Photo of the Day: July 22, 2015 "The Barbershop"

This is a photo that I took while wandering about Sydney, Australia late at night during my recent trip. I was without a tripod and it was incredibly dark so I had to push my ISO number higher to get an appropriate exposure without any blur, resulting in quite a bit of noise (or grain). I am not one to extensively edit my photographs, as I only  like to use post-processing as a way to get my photos to appear as they did to my naked eye while shooting. However, I played around with this photo a bit more than I normally would have. Rather than fighting the noise I decided to strengthen it, giving the image a unique old-fashioned appearance. What do you think of the final product?

Photo of the Day: July 18, 2015 "Darling Harbor Skyline"

I think that I will continue posting photos from my recent trip to Australia until people really get annoyed! Here is yet another photo from Darling Harbor in Sydney that I took late at night. The hustle and bustle of this harbor created an incredible environment revolving around the gorgeous water. The "Darling Harbor skyline" isn't too bad, is it?

Photo of the Day: July 17, 2015 "Chinese Garden of Friendship"

Whats around the corner?? What is causing all of those weird blue light beams??? This photo was taken at the "Chinese Garden of Friendship" in Sydney about two weeks ago. This reflecting pool offered a very restricted view of the network of buildings within the garden and I attempted to capture the mysterious aura of the space here.

Photo of the Day: July 14, 2015 "Half and Half"

While shooting along the coast of New South Wales I did not immediately realize that I had taken a photograph that captured both above and below the surface of the water of a tide pool. It was honestly all luck as the water continued to splash into the pool via waves from the Pacific Ocean!

Photo of the Day: July 13, 2015 "Waterfall in the Blue Mountains"

Here is a photo that I took near the beginning of my recent trip to Australia, in the Blue Mountains National Park in New South Wales. I shot this from an observation point that gave a terrific view of this massive waterfall. Beautiful, right?

Photo of the Day: July 10, 2015 "Blue Mountains"

Because I depart tomorrow morning to return home to Minneapolis from my adventure here in Australia I thought that it was only appropriate to post a photograph of one of the first excursions that I had in the land down under, to the Blue Mountains National Park. Located about a 2 hours drive west of Sydney in New South Wales, this gorgeous mountain range is covered in a beautiful eucalypt forest. Truly one of the most beautiful things that I have ever seen!

Photo of the Day: July 8, 2015. Darling Harbor Cool Yule Winter Festival

Yet another Sydney festival has come around! "Cool Yule" Winter Festival is a fun way for a city that doesn't get snow or ice to enjoy some of the colder aspects of the winter season. I took this image tonight in Darling Harbour, where under this massive snowflake structure is a temporary outdoor ice rink. Not surprisingly it was absolutely packed!

Photo of the Day: July 7, 2015. "Vivid! Sydney" fireworks and laser show at Darling Harbour

Darling Harbour, Sydney. The Vivid! Sydney festival is an incredibly unique experience, and this was on of my personal favorites. Each night there was a fireworks/laser/lights show all set to several songs and music scores played over speakers throughout the harbor. This was shot during one of these shows behind a series of movable walkways for getting on and off of boats.

Photo of the Day: July 5, 2015

The Great Barrier Reef is by far the largest living organism in the world and is the only one visible from outer space. Despite the fact that I got very seasick on the two hour trip out to the reef and threw up four times on the boat (in my defense the crew said that it was one of the roughest days on the water in a long time) what was waiting under the surface made it more than worth it. If you ever get the change to visit this beautiful underwater world, do it! ‪#‎photooftheday‬ ‪#‎greatbarrierreef‬ ‪#‎nature‬ ‪#‎art‬‪#‎australia‬ ‪#‎underwater‬

Photo of the Day: July 4, 2015

Is this heaven? Spending the evening on Coogee Beach in New South Wales was a terrific way to end the daylight hours today. It was truly a visual masterpiece. Also, to everyone back in my home country of the U.S....happy Independence Day! ‪#‎photooftheday‬ ‪#‎beach‬ ‪#‎australia‬‪#‎sunset‬ ‪#‎art‬ ‪#‎photography‬
