This is a photo that I took while wandering about Sydney, Australia late at night during my recent trip. I was without a tripod and it was incredibly dark so I had to push my ISO number higher to get an appropriate exposure without any blur, resulting in quite a bit of noise (or grain). I am not one to extensively edit my photographs, as I only like to use post-processing as a way to get my photos to appear as they did to my naked eye while shooting. However, I played around with this photo a bit more than I normally would have. Rather than fighting the noise I decided to strengthen it, giving the image a unique old-fashioned appearance. What do you think of the final product?

Photo of the Day: July 18, 2015 "Darling Harbor Skyline"
I think that I will continue posting photos from my recent trip to Australia until people really get annoyed! Here is yet another photo from Darling Harbor in Sydney that I took late at night. The hustle and bustle of this harbor created an incredible environment revolving around the gorgeous water. The "Darling Harbor skyline" isn't too bad, is it?

Photo of the Day: July 17, 2015 "Chinese Garden of Friendship"
Whats around the corner?? What is causing all of those weird blue light beams??? This photo was taken at the "Chinese Garden of Friendship" in Sydney about two weeks ago. This reflecting pool offered a very restricted view of the network of buildings within the garden and I attempted to capture the mysterious aura of the space here.

The Sydney Opera House during the famous "Vivid!" festival, an annual celebration of light, music, and ideas. Throughout the city of Sydney interactive displays are set up and powerful projectors shine images/graphics/videos to the tune of music onto the facades of buildings for an incredible multi sensory experience.

I took this photograph last night while having a solitary walk around Circular Quay. An elaborate fireworks display suddenly erupted across the harbor as I stood on a pier. It was absolutely beautiful...I love Australia.

Vivid Sydney 2015!

| Sydney Opera House with its world-famous sails being projected upon during Vivid Sydney 2015. |
I was lucky enough to arrive near the beginning of arguably Australia's most popular festival: Vivid Sydney. It is a multi-week festival celebrating light, music, and ideas. This alone speaks volumes to me about why this city is so wonderful to me. The fact that a city would hold a festival like this says a lot to me personally.

Vivid Sydney is absolutely beautiful; when the sun goes down images and video designed by artists are beautifully projected onto the facades of buildings and structures throughout the city. The showcase in Circular Quay remains my personal favorite, seeing the Sydney Opera House and Sydney Harbor Bridge illuminated is absolutely stunning. There is also extensive interactive exhibits around the harbor for all ages to explore. The best way to experience the visuals is via ferry, gliding through the water. Seeing the reflections of such saturated colors on the water gives the experience a film noir feel. To top it all off, all of the ferrys have colorful lights on them to, so the busy harbor is illuminated with color from the movement of hundreds of boats.

"Adjustments" Sydney - Part 2
![]() |
| Shooting around Bondi Beach |
- Everyone driving on the opposite side of the road/steering wheel on opposite side of vehicle. My instincts have me looking in the wrong direction when initially crossing the street. Hopefully this won't be my final post because of it.
- Leaving early summer in the northern hemisphere and entering early winter in southern hemisphere. Coming from Minnesota, Sydney's winters don't intimidate me whatsoever, however, it is challenging to suddenly go from having longer summer days to dropping back into shorter days. Thanks 23.5 degree tilt.
- JET LAG - I will reiterate this. Honestly, jumping fifteen hours into the "future" is rough on ones body. Also, when I fly back to the States, I will leave Sydney at 10 a.m. for a 14 hour flight only to land in LA at 7 a.m...on the same day. Time zones are weird. So I'll pretend that I am achieving time travel.
Those are probably the three biggest things and while some may seem silly to you they were the ones that I personally dealt with the most. Regardless, I am well traveled and Sydney has been nothing but spectacular ever since my arrival so none of these were anywhere close to being unbearable. I would take all of the above ten times over!
Sydney - Part 1
Hi everyone! In case you did not read the title of this post, I am excited to announce that I am currently in Sydney, Australia! The end of the semester was chaotic with finals back at the U of MN, then I was packing and preparing for my summer of interning here in Sydney. I am quite blessed to be interning at an architecture firm here and am meeting all sorts of wonderful people and am learning so much along the way. I return to the States in July and have been here since May.
In the grand scheme of things my visit here is not very long so I am doing everything in my power to cherish every second that I have. With that said, I am going to starting blogging about my time here, particularly all things photography related (duh!). I will do a couple of post in rapid succession to catch you all up on my time here so far, then I will begin blogging in stride with the present time.
I apologize for the absence of posts over the past two months. To be honest, I was not certain of what I wanted to do with this blog upon the completion and unveiling of my website. I no longer want this to be strictly a place where I display my work - I have my website for that. Rather, I will use this blog to track my photography adventures along with a place to share some thoughts and tips along the way. Thank you for looking!
Cheers,
-Wyatt
